Temporary Lodging Assistance (TLA)
The purpose of TLA is to partially reimburse an individual for the more than normal expenses incurred during occupancy of temporary lodging. Individuals with command-sponsored family members in the area of the Permanent Duty Station are entitled to TLA when housing is not available upon arrival and after clearing privatized family housing or off-post housing.
More about TLA
Service Members arriving in Hawaii on TLA who elect to wait for on-post or off-post housing that will not be available for move-in until after 60 days of their arrival are authorized to receive up to 60 days of TLA. This is due to their personal choice to wait for something beyond that timeframe.
Service Members who sign a rental agreement with a tenancy start date within 60 days of arrival can request for a TLA extension if household goods cannot be delivered within the 60-day timeframe.
Service Members who have home purchase agreements with closing dates beyond the initial 60 days may request additional TLA until the closing date.
Bonafide Bachelors and Service Members who did not bring their dependents and are deploying with 60 days of arrival, are required to obtain a written memorandum from their commander or TCS orders to remain on TLA, and not required to search for housing until they deploy.
Service Members who redeploy and will be departing within 60 days are not required to search if they have PCS orders. They are eligible for interim TLA upon return.
